dry needling

Dry Needling is an acupuncture technique used to treat trigger point or myofascial pain. Dry Needling is often performed by Physical Therapists after a weekend of training, whereas many Acupuncturists ( who attend Chinese Medical School for 3-4 years, earn a Masters Degree, and needle all day, every day) are trained in Advanced Orthopedic Acupuncture which includes Dry Needling. Combining these modern acupuncture techniques with more extensive orthopedic techniques including electro-acupuncture, muscle motor point stimulation in addition to time tested traditional acupuncture treating the whole person, provides possibilities that other medical modalities cannot.

cupping

Fire cupping is a traditional Chinese therapy technique that involves placing glass cups on the skin and using heat to create suction. The heat causes the air inside the cup to expand and create a vacuum, which pulls the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. Fire cupping promotes blood flow, reduces pain and inflammation, and promotes relaxation. It is often used for conditions such as back pain, respiratory infections, and digestive issues.

Sports massage Therapy

Dr. Stacey has worked with professional and amateur athletes for over 30 years. With a degree in Exercise Physiology and advanced Orthopedic Acupuncture experience she is able to weave recovery sessions into your phases of training, perform advanced orthopedic testing to identify the root cause of your pain and give you next level treatment without the needles. Massage Therapy including trigger point therapy, joint mobilization, myofascial release and hands on healing of the muscles and fascia allow for increased freedom of movement in the body, decreased pain, quicker recovery and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system facilitating a boost in mental and emotional health.

moxibustion (moxa)

Moxibustion is a traditional treatment that uses a dried herb called mugwort to warm acupuncture points. Moxa is often utilized to decrease pain in swollen joints, dispel back pain and menstrual cramps, boost energy and is used as a great substitute for the damaging effects of ice on acute and post acute injuries.

chinese herbal medicine

Herbal medicine in combination with acupuncture is often a much more powerful investment that acupuncture alone. Herbal formulas are one of the main pillars of Chinese Medicine. There are over 365 natural herbs in the pharmacopeia with multitudes of ways they affect our body. With years of study we artfully determine the best combination of herbs and formula for you. As healing commences, the formula may change to facilitate the natural progression of the body.

FAQs

  • Cancellation/Late Policy: If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, or if you miss a booked appointment, you will be charged the full price for the appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late to an appointment, the remainder of the time-slot may be given to another patient.

  • From a Western medicine perspective, research has shown that acupuncture treatment triggers different physiological responses, such as:

Stimulating the immune system and increasing white blood cells, which defend the body against infection.

Regulating blood sugar metabolism, which helps the body use energy more efficiently.

Increasing blood circulation and producing beneficial changes in blood pressure; decreasing cholesterol and triglycerides.

Increasing stomach peristaltic activity and regulating digestive fluids, thereby improving digestion.

Regulating and stimulating serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is directly related to sleep, appetite, and moods.

Increasing the availability of receptors in the brain that process and weaken pain signals.

Affecting the brain’s short- and long-term ability to reduce pain sensation.

  • Acupuncture needles are nothing like the needles you see at the doctor’s office, in fact, I wish we could call them something other than needles since that is what most of us envision with the word needle. The needles used by the acupuncturist are very small hairlike needles with a filiform tip. Many patients don’t feel anything when the needle is inserted, though some describe the sensation as a small pinch. After the needle is inserted you may feel a sensation of a deep ache at the insertion site. This is the desired effect that shows the needle is working powerfully.

  • The number of treatments required to see change in a pattern or symptom is dependent on several factors. Conditions that have been in place for many years can sometimes be stubborn and take more treatments to resolve than an acute situation. Most conditions should see significant change in 6-10 treatments. As part of your first appointment, we will discuss your health in-depth in order to come up with an appropriate treatment schedule for your specific needs.

  • When you meet with your practitioner for the first time, you will have a comprehensive talk about your health history, lifestyle and treatment goals. All this information helps the practitioner develop a dynamic view of your health. This first talk typically takes 30-45 minutes. Stacey my perform some diagnostic and orthopedic tests. The remainder of the time will focus on treatment including acupuncture and possibly other modalities such as massage, moxibustion, gua sha, cupping and/or lifestyle and nutrition counseling. Since we are in this together, you may be given “homework” such as stretches, exercises, or lifestyle adjustments to help you get the most out of the time between treatments.

  • ACUPUNCTURE:

I DO take insurance, but not at this location. If you have insurance benefits that cover acupuncture, please get scheduled at my other office in Emergency Responders Health Center at 208-229-8433. I accept all patients there including non-first responders.

    MASSAGE THERAPY:

Dr. Whitcomb is contracted with Regence Blue Shield for therapeutic massage. You will be asked to email a photo of your insurance card prior to your appointment so our team can verify benefits.

    MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

If you have been in a motor vehicle accident, I am happy to work with your attorney or insurance to make sure you get the treatment you need to make a solid recovery.
